Two people, meeting each other honestly
Couples counselling and mediation — for partners who want to understand what is happening between them, and to change it.
Healthy relationships can be difficult to achieve. Mutual support, understanding and empathy are key — and none of them arrives automatically. Most couples who come to therapy come because something between them has stopped working the way they hoped it would, and neither of them is quite sure what to do about it.
Whatever has brought you, you are welcome. The work begins with honest conversation, held in a space where both of you can be heard.
Healthy adult relationships are reciprocal. We cannot make a relationship healthy by ourselves — and we cannot fix a relationship on our own.
The bridge
I use the metaphor of a bridge to illustrate that healthy adult relationships need to be reciprocal — they need to be built from both sides. We cannot make a relationship healthy by ourselves, and we cannot fix a relationship on our own.
That fact is often the first honest thing that has to be said in the room. If only one partner is invested in the work, we can only go so far. When both are — even hesitantly, even nervously — real movement becomes possible.
What relationship therapy actually looks like
Relationship therapy can include activities to engage in together, honest and transparent communication, humour, tears, and love. What it does not include is quick fixes. Real change in how two people are with each other takes time and it takes courage.
We often feel worse before we feel better. This is because we need to look at what might be causing the difficulties before we can address them — and looking at those things can be uncomfortable. That discomfort is not a sign that therapy is going wrong. It is often a sign that it is going well.
Both mediation and relationship therapy require that everyone concerned is invested in the process. We aim to identify mutually beneficial goals that we can work towards together.
Two related offerings
Couples counselling and mediation are related but distinct. Choose whichever fits your situation — or get in touch and we can talk through which is the right starting point for you.

For those navigating separation
Ending well, when ending is the answer.
Sometimes the healthiest thing a relationship can do is end. Mediation offers a structured, held space for partners moving towards separation to work through what needs to be worked through — respectfully, honestly, and with both parties heard.
- Focused on mutually beneficial outcomes
- Practical and emotional aspects both held
- In-person or online
- Confidential and unhurried
What you can expect
Practical matters
Sessions are usually fortnightly, of 75 minutes. Couples work often benefits from the longer session length — there is more to hold in the room. I offer both in-person sessions at my base in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and online sessions via Zoom.
Fees vary according to context and session length. Every relationship enquiry begins with a conversation — please do get in touch to talk about what you are looking for and what might work.
